Most days he’s a Back Bay Nike employee but on April 17th, 2017, Jarick Walker was a fundraising runner. Over the past year, he secured $7,500 of pledges from friends and family for the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF). The caveat is that now he has to make good on his end of the deal and run the Boston Marathon. A marathon is 26.2 miles, and the Boston iteration is one of the most famous in the world.
“I’ve run a lot but never have I run 26.2 miles,” said Walker, a former football player from Boston College. “Why not do something big for kids that haven’t had the same opportunities I’ve had?”
